Leh Palace Ladakh History

It is an ancient building that is called Leh Palace. It came into being in the 17th century under the reign of King Sengge Namgyal. The town of Leh was built to fend off attacks from invaders.

The Palace has grown and transformed over the decades, but it still stands and is among the country’s most valuable buildings.

The Palace is also high and has nine storeys. The king and his family used the upper floors, while the lower floors were meant for storage. There are beautiful carvings and paintings all over the Palace.

Following the Dogra conquest of Ladakh in the mid-19th century, the Palace fell into disrepair. Leh Palace fell apart, and the royal family moved to Stok Palace.

The Indian government has been trying to reconstruct the Palace for the last few years. Restoration is underway, and the Palace is open for public visits and is a favorite tourist attraction. The Leh Palace stands and remains a true reflection of the history and culture of Ladakh.
