Canoeing is a great way to get in shape and lose weight. Depending on how hard they paddle, it takes the average person about 300-400 calories per hour. It’s great news for those trying to get healthy or even maintain their New Year’s resolution. Plus, it’s a full-body workout! You don’t need to lift weights or go to the gym. Just jump in a canoe.
If you can boat, you can canoe. The canoe is the same thing as paddling a kayak but just slightly different equipment. So if someone knows how to use one, they know how to use the other, so don’t let that be an excuse not to give it a try!

One of the biggest complaints I’ve heard from other people is how wet and dirty they get when canoeing. This isn’t a complaint that you’ll find here, however!
You’ll get wet and dirty! If you’re expecting to jump right into a canoe on your first try without getting at least a little bit of water or dirt – then you were wrong.
Before starting this adventure, I had the same mindset, but now I see how silly it was not to expect anything less. If I had known this before starting to canoe, it wouldn’t have been so much of a problem for me.
You’re going to get wet and dirty, so expect it! It has made me appreciate nature more because there’s no hiding out in my car or behind closed doors. It forces me to face all of the elements head-on and accept them for what they are.
Tools of the Trade!
You might not think that this is important, but it does make a difference in how easy canoeing is for you to do or even just deciding if you want to try out your new hobby at all.
If I had known what kind of equipment was necessary before starting, I definitely would have reconsidered my choice. It would make the experience a lot easier and even more fun if you knew what to expect.

It didn’t take me long to get the hang of it, but I’ve also been able to get a lot better at canoeing because of how much time and effort I put into learning.
Canoe Doesn’t Have to be Impossible! It might sound like a silly thing to say, but it’s true. I didn’t think that canoeing was anything I could do, and now look at where I am with my abilities!
