History of Eklingeshwar Temple:

According to tales, Eklingeshwar Mahadev Mandir Jaipur, is older than Jaipur. This temple dates back to the time of Sawai Jai Singh. This area is known as Shankargarh, after Lord Shiva. After the temple’s construction, the entire Shiva family, including Lord Ashutosh, was enshrined here.

It is said that there was a temple of Eklingeshwar Mahadev in the maternal house of Sawai Jai Singh’s younger son Madho Singh, hence he desired to have a temple here also. After this, a temple was established here and this area became known as Ekalingeshwara Mahadev.

Legend has it that the Shiva family’s idols disappeared shortly after their installation. They were then installed again, but they went missing again. Due to fear of any untoward incident, the Shiva family’s idols were never installed again in the temple.
