Rao Jodha History:
It is a desert park in the city with an incredible place that shows what people can do when they work together to take care of nature. In the starting of 2000s when some smart folks decided to change a dry and rocky area near Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur. This place was in trouble because of strange plants taking over, soil erosion, and the land losing its natural beauty.
The idea to turn this place into a thriving desert park came from the Mehrangarh Museum Trust, led by a clever leader, Maharaja Gaj Singh II of Jodhpur. They named the park after Rao Jodha, the person who started Jodhpur. Their goal was to make the land healthy again and to keep its history and nature safe.
It meant getting rid of the strange plants, fixing the soil, and carefully bringing back the right plants that naturally belong there. People who worked on this project knew a lot about the local environment and what would grow best in the harsh desert.
As time went on, the Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park grew and thrived. Now, it is a big place, about 70 hectares, and it is home to over 80 different types of desert plants. Some of these plants are really special and rare. Not only did the plants come back, but lots of animals and birds made this place their home too, making it a biodiversity hotspot.
